Netflix launches Canadian streaming package

The long awaited Netflix Canada is now open for business.  The service features a wide selection of movies and TV shows, accessible through a variety of devices. Unlike the disc based options available in the US, the Canadian service is unlimited streaming for $7.99 a month, and is available for viewing on a variety of platforms, including the PC, Wii, iPhone/iPad and PS3.  Netflix for the Xbox 360, which was the first console to get the service in the US, won’t be available until later this fall.  No doubt this will be when the fall dashboard update comes out, which should be sometime before Microsoft’s Kinect launches on November 4th.

If you happen to be in the Toronto area, Netflix has set up a media event, closing off John St. between Queen and Adelaide, showing off the features.  Better yet, if you’re not sold on a streaming service, you can go to Netflix.ca right now, and sign up for their free one month trial.

UPDATE:  Apparently there was no need to visit the place in person, as the street filled with paid extras to talk to media about how much they love the Netflix service.  Odd, and really embarrassing move on Netflix’s part, but that’s not going to stop me from at least trying the service for free for one month.
